Wind Power – The Danish Way is the first book that tells the complete story of Paul la Cour’s
wind tunnel research in Askov, the Danish factories that produced 20,000 mills from 1900 to 1920, the use of airplane industry’s aerodynamic results to improve turbine technology around 1920, and the development of modern windmills during and after World War II.
The seven authors of the book’s 10 chapters have a profound knowledge of wind turbine technology and the history behind it, with the book tracing the development of Danish wind power through to 2009. There are 88 pages with more than 150 unique historical photos and illustrations. Written in English to make it accessible to an international audience, the book is a fine gift for anyone interested in wind power. The prefaces are written by Connie Hedegaard and Jan Hyllebjerg.

The book describes the development of Danish wind turbines from 1862 until today. In 1862, the building of windmills was no longer prohibited by law for certain segments of the population, allowing any danish resident to install one if they chose. In 1891, Poul la Cour built his first electricity-producing wind mill, which was later developed further by Johannes Juhl.

The book deals with the period from 862 till after World War II, an important chapter in the windmill history of Denmark. From 1862, the mill trade was no longer protected by law, and the lifting of restrictions on the establishment of new windmills became very significant for agriculture in particular. Now small and big farms alike could have their own windmill. The result was the installation of thousands of windmills, from very small, simple mills known as roof mills, to big factory made machines. The book also describes the development of the technology during this time.
