serif;\">Det var ikke tilf\u00e6ldigt, at Poul la Cour fik tilnavnet Danmarks Edison, for sidel\u00f8bende med sin stilling som vicedirekt\u00f8r for Meteorologisk Institut gav han sig i kast med mange opfindelser, f.eks. telegrafien, som p\u00e5 det tidspunkt var i en rivende udvikling.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: times new roman, times, serif;\">Da man kun kunne sende et morsetelegram ad gangen, medf\u00f8rte det tit overbelastning af nettet, hvilket var meget uhensigtsm\u00e6ssigt specielt inden for meteorologien, hvor var det vigtigt med en hurtig kommunikation over st\u00f8rre afstande.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section serif;\">Poul la Cour s\u00f8gte efter en metode til at lade flere telegrafister sende samtidigt p\u00e5 samme ledning, og fik i 1874 Videnskabernes Selskabs guldmedalje for sit arbejde med tonetelegrafien. Princippet byggede p\u00e5, at hver enkelt telegrafist kunne sende sine morsetegn via en elektrisk stemmegaffel, s\u00e5ledes at hver telegrafist p\u00e5 samme ledning fik sin egen frekvens at sende p\u00e5. \u00a0I 1878 blev opfindelsen udviklet til det tonehjul, der muliggjorde sending af op mod 12 morsetelegrammer samtidigt uafh\u00e6ngigt af hinanden. Han l\u00e5 i skarp konkurrence med den kendte amerikanske opfinder, Thomas A. I 1891 opfandt han kratostaten, som er et mekanisk apparat, der kan g\u00f8re uj\u00e6vne bev\u00e6gelser til helt j\u00e6vne bev\u00e6gelser, hvilket havde stor betydning for hans fors\u00f8g ved afpr\u00f8vning af vingemodeller i en vindtunnel. Yderligere f\u00f8rte hans fors\u00f8g med oplagring af energi ved hj\u00e6lp af brint ham p\u00e5 sporet af autogensvejsningen. I denne forbindelse arbejdede han p\u00e5 at f\u00e5 opf\u00f8rt en fabrik i Vejen til fremstilling af ilt og brint. Dette lykkedes dog ikke. Under brintfors\u00f8gene fandt han frem til at fremstille soda via en elektrolytisk proces, og han mente, at en s\u00e5dan produktion i mindre m\u00e5lestok var velegnet for de landbrug, der havde eget vindkraftv\u00e6rk. Som en konsekvens af fors\u00f8gene med produktion og oplagring af brint opfandt han den ideelle brintlyslampe, som fra 1895 til 1902 oplyste lokalerne p\u00e5 Askov H\u00f8jskole. Det er ogs\u00e5 v\u00e6rd at n\u00e6vne hans opfindelse af en kompressor og en forbr\u00e6ndingsmotor til brint. Poul la Cour lavede et v\u00e6ld af andre opfindelser, men opn\u00e5ede aldrig at blive velhavende, hvilket skyldtes, at han ikke var forretningsmanden, der t\u00e6nkte i kommercielle baner.Poul la Cour var opfinder og t\u00e6nkte i f\u00f8rste omgang kun p\u00e5, at opfindelserne skulle komme landbefolkningen til gode.
